Summer Fun in Northern Michigan

Summer Fun in Northern Michigan

June 03, 2024

Summer is officially here, and the hemming& team is excited to get out and enjoy it! Northern Michigan has so much to offer, and everyone has their own favorite summer activities and places. We've asked everyone on the hemming& team to share their favorite summer activities and locations (those that they were willing to share).

Dawn Hemming: One of my favorite activities is a combination of river kayaking and biking. I enjoy starting with a bike drop in Glen Arbor, then driving downriver to launch my kayak and paddling back upstream to the bike. Art’s Tavern adds to the fun, as well as great pickleball courts.

For a more intense experience, I recommend kayaking the Sturgeon River in Indian River. It's so demanding that taking a drink on the river is challenging, and finishing with a bike ride back to the truck on the rail trail is a perfect ending.

Autumn Soltysiak: A perfect summer day includes a swim in lake Michigan, Petoskey stone hunting and a beach bonfire waiting for the sun to set.   Otter creek has been a family favorite since before I was my girls’ age.  North Bar beach is another favorite – and where my husband proposed.

Tanelle Budd: I love boating with friends and family on Lake Leeleanu, for both day and night cruises! I also really enjoy hiking the many trails of Sleeping Bear National Park (especially the ones that most people don't know about) and enjoying a beautiful sunset view at the end.

Jena Posey: Relaxing summer days spent boating with family and friends on Spider Lake and Long Lake. We really enjoy long family bike rides on the TART trail starting at 5 Mile and going to West End Beach and back. We top it off with ice cream at Woodland Sweets.

Tessa Stapleton: Biking on the Betsie Valley trail from Beulah to Frankfort and back is one of my favorite summer activities! I love following the shores of beautiful Crystal Lake and the winding Betsie River to ice cream at The Scoop in Frankfort. Once we get back to Beulah, we love to stop for a sandwich at L'Chayim or a drink at 5 Shores Brewing. Then I like to end the day with Petoskey Stone hunting and sunset watching somewhere on Lake Michigan.

Ashley Urbanus: In the summer you can find me doing anything that's outside enjoying the sun. If I had to pick my two favorite things I look forward to, it's kayak fishing on our local lakes and riding our motorcycles up Old Mission Peninsula for the stunning views.

Kassandra Hildebrant: Pyramid Point or driving the peninsula are my favorite places to visit and be in nature.

Marissa Sobbry: We love spending time in Mackinaw City and St. Ignace. We like boating on Silver Lake and West Bay, and we love to visit Elk Rapids beach and downtown.

Have any suggestions for our team? We'd love to hear them!
